We were once again the Major Sponsors for the Harbord Bowling Clubs’ second annual fundraising event Summer Nights On The Green

The fundraiser was held for Tayla, a bubbly 6 year old girl battling Batten’s Disease. This rare neurological condition affects compartments in the cell called lysosomes. It impacts her motor and cognitive abilities resulting in Tayla needing 24-hour care.

“After the huge success of the first fundraiser which raised over $80,000 for Archie, of course we were going to be involved again and support Tayla” says Cranston Schwarz, Principal of Schwarz Real Estate.

Summer Nights On The Green was again a massive success, with almost 200 attendees and 30 teams. There was lawn bowls, live music, a silent auction and live auction on the day, the most expensive item that sold one the night was bar fridge for approximately $4,000.

A total of $55,000 was raised at the event “we couldn’t believe it” said Bobbie, mother of Tayla. “To the incredibly generous and supportive local community that donated food and prizes for the night we can’t thank you enough especially Schwarz the major sponsor for your contribution on the night and for raising awareness for Batten disease.”

“My business has been in Freshwater for over 20 years so I’ve really grown to know and love the community here. When there are hard times everyone really bonds together. It is important for me and my business to contribute and give back to the community, especially since the committee has supported my business for all these years.” says Cranston.

The money raised will go towards purchasing adaptive equipment for Tayla to use around the house so that she is safe and sensory equipment to create a therapy room for Tayla where she can engage and enjoy the senses: touch, sound, visual, spatial awareness and emotion.
